I’ll be the first to admit that going to bed early in order to get a full eight hours of sleep isn’t always easy. Especially because #momlife gets in the way. What I mean, is that often, I’ll stay up late trying to tackle whatever tasks I didn’t complete during the day. So, as soon as the girls go to sleep, I find myself trying to catch up. It’s become a pattern but one that I plan to break. Because let’s face it me-time is just as important as any task on a list, am I right?
Lately, I’ve been trying to get into a better bedtime routine. The girls are in bed by 8:30 PM at the latest and I try to take the next hour to do whatever I think I can before I start to wind down. These are some of the things that I do and I have to admit they have been helping. I’m sharing them in hopes they’ll help you too.
Write out Goals – I find that not being able to fall asleep has a lot to do with me thinking about unfinished tasks or goals. Setting these on paper allows me to get them out of my system and to a place where I can look them over later.
A cup of Tea – I grew up on tea! It’s my Abuelita’s go-to drink and cure for almost everything, from a headache to a heartache. I wasn’t a huge fan when younger but I have embraced it; and often make for breakfast and at night. Chamomile tea at night is my favorite. 🙂
Read a Magazine – I find that reading a magazine is a great distraction. It definitely helps me unplug.
Listen to Music – The last thing I do before going to bed it listen to music. In fact, I fall asleep to it. I’m not sure why but the sound really soothes and helps me fall asleep. There’s an Indy playlist that is my go-to because of how soothing it is.
