How I’m Preparing for Back to School with Dollar General

This post is sponsored by Dollar General but all the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Summer is in full swing and while we’re enjoying it to the fullest, I am thinking ahead to back-to-school season! When I learned about Dollar General’s Teachers List feature online, I thought I’d get a head start on my shopping. This new feature gives parents access to the school supply list by simply entering the zip code. 😃

As a mom, I’m always looking for a great deal, that’s why I love shopping at Dollar General, I can always find our favorite brands at affordable pricing. While shopping at our local store, I found everything the girls needed, from drinks and snacks to backpacks and lunch kits.

I made sure to pick up some of our favorites for their lunches; like the Good & Smart Cranberry Trail Mix which is packed with protein and their Milk Chocolate Bars a sweet treat and participating item of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Program which gives back to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. When you purchase 1 of the products shown, 100% of proceeds go to the DG Literacy Foundation.

This is important to me and family, because we like being involved in giving back. You can find ways to give back this back-to-school season too by learning more about the program here: https://www.dgliteracy.org/

If you’ve been coming here for a while, you know I have two girls. Well, this year’s back to school prep is a little different because both girls are going to school, one to fourth and one to preschool! This means double supplies but with the Spend $15 Save $5, I’ve got nothing to worry about.

I was even able to get a few items to help their teachers get ready for this school year. Although, Dollar General is already helping teachers by offering a 20% OFF Teacher’s Discount when they show their school badge at the register. I wanted to do something extra, so I picked up a few cleaning supplies for the classroom and a few treats for them too.

The girls thought this was a great idea and even though they don’t know who their teachers will be just yet, they can’t wait to meet them and give them the goodies I picked up for each. I’m glad to have gotten a headstart on back to school shopping because it will be here in no time.

Be sure to stop by Dollar General for all of your BTS needs!

Trendy Thursday LinkUp + How to Style a Denim Skirt

Did you shop the Nordstrom Sale? I did! And contrary to popular belief, I didn’t splurge. I set a budget and stuck to it. Even then, I ended up giving up on some styles that I thought I’d love when shopping online. This bodysuit is one of my top picks and while it’s sold out, I found this one which is very similar and comes in four colors! Plus, it’s on sale right now and under $14! 😉 I’ve thought of a few ways to wear this and thought it would be pair well with a denim skirt. But will likely style it a few more ways and share it with you here or on my social profiles.

To add a fun touch to the look, I thought I’d wear my snakeskin boots which seem to be an item that will trend again this fall. While, I often keep accessories to a minimum but I’ve been playing around with hats and headbands. Especially over on Instagram! I’m liking this hat because it was a great find at under $18! It’s a piece that can be worn now and later, and almost year round. The handbag, you’ve seen before and the black option is also part of the N Sale. I love this Tory Burch option because it’s similar to the Gucci Camera Bag but much more affordable! 😃

Trendy Thursday LinkUp: Bodysuits + Jeans

Bodysuits are one of my favorite styles, in fact one that I wear all year long. Express, one of my favorite retailers has a great selection of bodysuits; including the one that I’m sharing today. This one is on sale and under $20. Plus, it has a fun cutout design on the back. So, I wanted to share it along with some other finds in the bodysuit department.

I love bodysuits because they can be worn so many ways, with jeans (like I did here), skirts, shorts, and even trouser. I also love that if it’s a style that buttons at the bottom, you don’t necessarily have to wear it that way, you can simply tuck it in and leave it unbuttoned. I point this out because many people have expressed their dislike for bodysuits because of the button requirement.

My style is mostly casual, especially in the summer. And I couldn’t help but wear this bodysuit with my favorite jeans – which I’m linking for you below. I blindly recommend these because they’re great quality. I have worn them many times to create different looks. To accomplish an absolute laid back and casual look, I kept all accessories to the minimum by wearing dainty pieces. Like the layered necklace look, which is somewhat new to me but I’m loving. I still want to add one more piece to complete it though. The bag you have seen many times before because it’s my summer go-to. 🙂 Now, I’m curious to know your opinion on bodysuits.

Why Brawny Tear-A-Square® is Our Favorite Barbecue Season Essential

This post is sponsored by Brawny® but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

It’s officially Barbecue season and I’m turning to Brawny Tear-A-Square® to take on everything from holding our favorite snacks to cleaning up the messes! The new Brawny paper towel is truly a game changer! Now it offers three different size options, so they are perfect to use on clean ups and even as a napkin.

For my family, barbecues are a big deal and they are not just a weekend thing; especially as the weather get warmer. Summer isn’t officially here yet but we have started to spend lots of time outside by the pool. In this Texas heat there’s really no better way to cool off. Since we spend so much time outside, it only makes sense to take advantage and grill our favorites. Plus, this is one of the best ways to get the hubby involved in cooking. 😉

Brawny paper towels have been our barbecue essential lately! It’s just great to have all the different sizes the new Brawny Tear-A-Square offers. And I have even noticed that since using these, my family also seems to make less waste. We have stopped using plates for certain things, like our favorite chips, candies and cookies, these all fit perfectly on the quarter sheet size. This new size also works as a napkin, so there’s no need to buy both paper towels and napkins for barbecues and gatherings.

I plan to keep Brawny Tear-A-Square in use during every event this summer, from our impromptu barbecues to gatherings with friends and family. Having a paper towel that offers strength and flexibility to only use what you need, is a must. As you get ready for all your summer gatherings, keep the new Brawny Tear-A-Square in mind. You can now find it at your local Kroger! And believe me when I say, it will become your favorite barbecue season essential!

Trendy Thursday LinkUp: Six Different Ways to Wear Shorts this Summer

Shorts are an essential part of my summer wardrobe – especially living in Houston – temperatures as high at 90+ these are really a must. Because I spend a lot of time in these, I like having different options for styling them. Today I’m sharing six ways I like to wear them in the summer, to give you some inspiration when it comes to wearing shorts. 🙂

Shorts + Blouses

A blouse doesn’t always belong to a dressed up look. Sure they look great with trousers and skirts but jeans and jeans shorts are fair game too. In this look, I went for a casual vibe (my usual) wearing them with a blouse with my favorite slide on sandals, neutral handbag and minimal accessories.

Shorts + Sweaters

Of all the ways to wear shorts, I think wearing them with sweaters is one of my favorite. Especially if paired with a lightweight sweater, one that is breathable enough to wear in summer. This look I think is also perfect for beachside and lakeside days. 🙂

How to Get Ready for the Nordstrom Sale

Are you ready for the biggest sale of the year? I am! So much that I’ve started rounding up a handful of favorites from the Nordstrom Sale to share with you. Before we get to that, here are a few details to keep in min about the sale.

What is the N Sale?

It’s one of the biggest and most popular sales of the year. One that helps lots of shoppers get ready to the season ahead. In order to shop early from July 12- 18, you must be a card holder. Being a cardholder is good for a few reasons:

  • Nordstrom cardmembers shop 7 days before everyone else.
  • You can 3 points per dollar on Nordstrom credit card purchases in stores or online at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, HauteLook and Trunk Club.
  •  Points turn into cash back rewards called notes. If you don’t want to get the card, you can also shop the sale on these dates July 19 – August 4.

Keep in mind that the sale ends on August 5, which means that all prices will go back up.

What to Shop for?

I feel that this depends on your style and location. What I do is comb through the endless list of items on sale and bring you a round up of those I think are of great value. Having shopped the sale before, I feel that these categories are the most sought after; sweaters, denim, boots, handbags, outerwear, and accessories. If you keep reading, you will see a sneak peek of my picks in these categories.

How to Shop?

There are a few ways you can shop. 1) You could head to the site as soon as the sale starts at 12:30 ET on July 12 and shop online. 2) You can follow me on LIKEtoKNOW.it where I will be sharing more items from the sale. 3) You can use the Shop the N Sale tab on the drop down menu at the top of the blog. 4) Shop by keeping an eye out on my Instagram posts and Stories.
