Getting a new apartment is an exciting time. I remember the very first time I got my first apartment without my family or roommates. It was so exciting! All throughout college, I had lived with roommates and for the most part didn’t do much decorating because it was a shared space. So when I was getting my first apartment alone, I couldn’t wait to start planning how I would make it my own.
That being said I was also a new college grad with limited funds. I knew I wanted to add my personality to the place but I also knew that I needed to do so on a budget. Here are five smart ways to add personality to your new apartment without breaking the bank.
Make Your Own Art
I didn’t initially plan to make my art. I went to a few places, like Ross and Marshalls, to look for art. Store after store I just couldn’t find anything I wanted to look at every day. I went to a local discount arts and crafts store to see what they had in stock.
Wall color is something that rarely stands out to us. In fact, sometimes that’s the point. However, it can have a major effect on the psychological impact of a room. According to the color scheme and how it’s handled, a room can feel cheap or posh, dramatic or cozy.
The color of your walls (and floor and ceiling) can either bring the whole room together, or throw the whole room off. It can affect how the room holds light, or how strained your eyes feel, and how good your furniture looks. It can make a room feel set apart from the rest of the house or seamlessly integrated into a progression from room to room.
If you get anxious about picking out colors for a room, here are some tips, from the experts, that can help you get started:
Making a Plan
To start out with you need to plan more than the wall colors themselves. Designing a room that’s thoughtful and coordinated-looking will include considering everything from the carpet on the floor to the color of the ceiling, including all furniture, curtains, decorations, wall hangings, and fabrics. So, it’s a good idea to have an overall plan first. For you, that process might consist of taking stock of what you have, creating a vision board, or finding your perfect statement piece. I have found some similar options too and linked them below for you to check out and shop. The sandals in this look, I recently got at JCPenney. Let me tell you that I hardly ever shop there, but I’m glad to have found these. They go with everything and have quickly become a favorite. My clutch is also a cross-body from Kate Spade, another accessory that is on repeat because of it’s versatility. 😉 Last but not least, the watch is a Fossil and the earrings from a favorite Etsy Shop, Buddha Blossom Jewels.
If you have been to the blog before or are a friend on social media, you know that I am not big on makeup. However, when it comes to lippies and mascara, well that’s a different story. If there is one make up item that I must have, it is mascara. So when I got the opportunity to try Youniques’ Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+, I was excited. Having watched testimonials, video tutorial, and completed looks online, I was curious to see what the hype was about.
When I got my mascara from Julye, the first thing I noticed was the packaging, sleek and useful. The box had instructions on how to apply the gel and fibers, which came in handy the first few times that I used it. Though, my favorite feature was that the two-piece combo – transplanting gel + 3D fibers– came with a nice little pouch that makes keeping them together and traveling with them super easy.
I say traveling because I got it around the time I was on vacation in Georgia. This means I have been using it for about a month, which has giving me a lot of time to become a fan. While, I was a little skeptical at first, I have been proven wrong. First, unlike other mascaras that leave a black streak behind after I wash off my make up, this one comes right off.
The volume and length my lashes get from it are quite amazing. The fibers make my lashes seem much fuller than they really are. And a single application makes a big difference, but I use about three applications to get my desired results.
Now that you know how I feel about make up, you can guess that I also don’t spend a lot on make up. With that said, I feel that Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ is very affordable, especially because it gives you results. Even though it’s a two-step application, it’s worth it and it doesn’t make applying mascara any more difficult. See for yourself in Julye’s tutorial video below.
First, are we friends on Instagram? If we’re not! Get to it. You’re missing out on all the live shares of my adventures. Like this trip to the Georgia Aquarium. Yes! It all happens there first and then I come to The Blog to spill details on everything. You can find me under Thirtyminusone_blog. 😉
So, last month I spent over three weeks in Georgia. It’s where my family lives and was home for a few years and where my husband and I met. We still have friends there and love going back to get away from the city life – ok, I do live in the suburbs but it’s a complete scenery change.
Hey, you! Happy Hump Day. We made it to the middle of the week. Or as we say in Spanish, el hombligo de la semana!! Instead of sharing a look with you I wanted to take advantage that Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale is going on to share a few of my favorite picks for this coming fall.
Though I don’t shop at Nordstrom as often as I’d like – because let’s face it I can only afford items that go on sale… I do ALWAYS have items on my wish-list. While browsing I found some cute blouses, cardis, handbags and shoes. All items – except for one – are under $100 and most are unde $50. Go ahead and take a peek.
