Homemade Mac and Cheese… I have been wanting to make this for a long time. Because it is not only a comfort food but it is also kid-friendly. And with two picky eaters at home these type of recipes are important.
Since my husband has a few days off, I have been taking advantage and spending a lot of time in the kitchen. While I am cooking he’s spending time with our littlest, and when I’m done we get to eat a delicious meal. It works out for everyone! 😉 On to the mac and cheese…
Homemade Mac and Cheese
I started by boiling 1 lb. of pasta (elbows macaroni) according to the instruction on the package. While the pasta boiled, I melted the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
Then sprinkled in flour and whisked it for about 3 minutes, and added salt and pepper. Next, I slowly whisked in the milk and boiled on low heat until it thickened.
I added the drained pasta to a greased 9×13 baking pan, sprinkled shredded cheese on the top and covered with the cream sauce, while stirring it all together.
To make the bread topping, I melted the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat and added the panko bread crumbs, stirring continuously for about 5 minutes until golden brown. Then Sprinkled over the pasta and baked at 325 degrees for 12 minutes.
Pretty easy right? Leave me a comment below and tell me how you liked this recipe.
